Hollywood Star Reveals Reason for Red Carpet Cane Use

Sylvester Stallone’s recent appearance at the Kennedy Center Honors sparked interest when he was seen using a cane. His wife, Jennifer Flavin, offered insight into this unexpected choice during a conversation with Fox News. She revealed Stallone just underwent his eighth back surgery, necessitating the use of a cane for support.

Stallone’s Medical Journey

Flavin, 57, detailed Stallone’s extensive medical history, which includes multiple surgeries. He has faced challenges with three neck surgeries and injuries to his knees, elbows, and shoulders. “After we finish filming Tulsa King, we’re going back for one more surgery on his back,” she explained. Despite these hardships, Flavin added a note of optimism, saying, “He’s still punching, though.”

Striking Red Carpet Appearance

At 79 years old, Stallone made a memorable impression on the red carpet, donning a stylish black tuxedo and a gold-tipped cane. His physical ailments are well-documented, but the cane still surprised many fans. Stallone has been open about the injuries sustained throughout his career in action films.

Injuries Sustained Over the Years

  • Tore a pectoral muscle while filming Rocky II.
  • Spent nine days in ICU after a serious injury while filming Rocky IV.
  • Fractured neck during a fight scene in The Expendables, resulting in seven back surgeries.

Stallone has stated that the consequences of these injuries have left him with long-term spinal damage. He admitted during an episode of his reality show, The Family Stallone, that he never fully recovered after the incident involving former WWE star Steve Austin.

Acknowledgment at Kennedy Center Honors

Despite his challenges, Stallone was in high spirits while being recognized at the Kennedy Center. He was honored alongside other notable figures such as George Strait, Gloria Gaynor, and the iconic rock band, Kiss. Donald Trump, who hosted the event, commended Stallone’s resilience, referencing the enduring spirit of his character, Rocky Balboa.

According to Trump, “Some have had legendary setbacks, but they showed us that you keep moving forward.” This recognition highlights not only Stallone’s contributions to cinema but also his determination and fortitude in the face of adversity.
