Chris Rodriguez, Deebo Samuel Questionable for Sunday’s Game Against Giants

In preparation for their upcoming matchup against the New York Giants, the Washington Commanders face uncertainty regarding two key players: running back Chris Rodriguez and wide receiver Deebo Samuel. Both athletes are currently listed as questionable for the Sunday game.

Injury Updates: Chris Rodriguez and Deebo Samuel

Chris Rodriguez has been dealing with a groin injury that affected his practice schedule this week. He was unable to participate on Wednesday but made a limited return on Thursday and Friday. Rodriguez, selected in the sixth round of the 2023 draft, has become a crucial part of the Commanders’ offense. He has averaged 4.6 yards per carry over 11 games, showing increased effectiveness in recent weeks.

Since the Commanders’ Week 9 game against the Seattle Seahawks, Rodriguez has rushed for 253 yards and three touchdowns on 54 carries over the last five games. If he is unable to play on Sunday, the Commanders have several options to replace him:

  • Jeremy McNichols: A veteran who not only assists in the passing game but has also averaged 6.6 yards per carry.
  • Jacory Croskey-Merritt: Though his role has diminished recently, he provides speed and vision on the ground.
  • Chase Edmonds: Recently added to the roster, he boasts a career total of 1,972 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns across seven seasons.

In addition to Rodriguez’s uncertain status, Deebo Samuel has also been added to the injury report due to an illness, prompting a day off provided by the coaching staff. Samuel has been one of the key contributors to the Commanders’ offense and has played a significant role this season. If he is unable to participate, rookie Jaylin Lane, who has 16 receptions for 225 yards, may see increased playing time.

Additional Injury Concerns for the Commanders

The Commanders are also dealing with other injury issues ahead of the game. Three players have been ruled out:

  • Jonathan Jones (Rib): Did not practice during the week.
  • Jayden Daniels (Left Elbow): Head coach Dan Quinn announced his absence earlier this week.
  • Drake Jackson (Groin/Knee): Still recovering after recently being activated from Injured Reserve.

With Jones ruled out, the team’s cornerback depth is further strained. Previous injuries have already sidelined key players like Marshon Lattimore and rookie Trey Amos. Current candidates to fill the gaps include Mike Sainristil, Noah Igbinoghene, and Antonio Hamilton Sr.

The final injury report for the Commanders will be crucial in assessing their lineup and strategic approach as they head into the game against the Giants.
