Sczech and Lednicky Clash in Regional Finals Showdown
Allie Sczech of Nebraska and Logan Lednicky of Texas A&M are set to face off in a highly anticipated regional final. The match will take place on Sunday, featuring two athletes who share deep roots in Sugar Land, Texas.
Childhood Friends Turned Competitors
Sczech and Lednicky both grew up blocks apart and attended classes together from elementary through high school. Their journey in volleyball began in their backyards, leading to them becoming teammates at George Ranch High School in Richmond, Texas.
While they competed in exhibitions during Sczech’s time at Baylor, this will mark their first official college meeting. Sczech noted how proud she feels to witness her friend’s growth. “It’s really cool to see that kind of full circle moment,” she remarked after Nebraska’s victory over Kansas.
High School Achievements
During their senior year at George Ranch, both athletes achieved commendable recognition. Sczech and outside hitter Avery Shimaitis were named first-team high school All-Americans, while Lednicky earned honorable mention. All three players ranked among the Top 100 prospects according to PrepVolleyball.

Despite having remarkable talent, George Ranch completed their 2021 season with a 28-14 record, becoming district runners-up. The team adapted offensively after losing their main setter, switching to a 6-2 system with both left-handed players serving as setters. Sczech led the team with 523 assists, while Lednicky contributed 300 assists.
Transition to College Volleyball
As college athletes, both players have excelled in their respective roles. Lednicky has displayed her dedication, stepping into various positions to support the team, while Sczech recently revisited her setting skills to fill in for an injured teammate.
During their college careers, Sczech and Lednicky have continued to build and maintain strong relationships. Sczech’s sister, Lillie, swims for Texas A&M, and the two families often connect. Lednicky has also shared time on the court with other players from their hometown, emphasizing a sense of community.
Impact on Houston Volleyball
Their success has contributed to the growth of volleyball in Houston, which Sczech proudly acknowledges. She believes their achievements have played a role in inspiring younger players, similar to other local stars like Madi Skinner and Reagan Rutherford.
As they prepare to meet on the court, both players understand the significance of this matchup. “It’s super cool to be in this situation,” Lednicky noted, reflecting on their journey since freshman year.
Regardless of the outcome, Sczech and Lednicky recognize their shared history and commitment to each other, promising to support one another through this thrilling experience.
