Firework-Free New Year’s Eve Spots in Frankfurt This Year

Frankfurt is implementing strict measures for a firework-free New Year’s Eve this year. With the aim of ensuring safety, the city has prohibited the use of fireworks in specific areas.

Firework Restrictions in Frankfurt

Starting from December 31 at 8 PM, the following locations will not allow fireworks:

  • The Zeil shopping street
  • The Eiserner Steg bridge
  • Main areas surrounding Hauptwache and Konstablerwache

The ban on fireworks on the Zeil will remain in effect until January 1 at 6 AM, while on the Eiserner Steg the restrictions will end at 3 AM.

Additional Safety Regulations

In addition to the firework bans, larger bags and containers are prohibited on the Eiserner Steg. The enforcement of these rules is part of a broader strategy to enhance public safety as large crowds are expected in the city.

Broader Firework-Free Zones

According to Germany’s federal explosives law, fireworks are also banned within 200 meters of:

  • Churches
  • Hospitals
  • Children’s and elderly homes
  • Historical buildings, including half-timbered houses
  • Frankfurt Zoo
  • City forest

Additionally, fireworks will not be allowed near Frankfurt Airport. The city has announced increased patrols by both state and city police to ensure compliance with these regulations.

Impact on Local Wildlife

The Frankfurt Zoo has urged residents to respect the firework ban around the zoo area. Loud noises from fireworks can cause significant stress and panic among the animals.

As the countdown to midnight approaches, Frankfurt prepares for a safer celebration, prioritizing community well-being and animal welfare.
