After more than ten years of operation, Avo, the acclaimed Italian restaurant in Uptown New Orleans, has announced its closure. The restaurant will serve its final meals on December 23, much to the dismay of its loyal patrons.

Avo’s Culinary Legacy

Founded by chef Nick Lama in 2015, Avo has played a significant role in elevating Italian cuisine in the region. The restaurant derives its name from the Italian word meaning “grandfather,” symbolizing a connection to Lama’s Sicilian roots.

A Unique Dining Experience

Avo is known for its sophisticated, candlelit atmosphere and refined dishes. Highlights from its menu included:

  • Housemade pastas adorned with lump crab meat and white truffle butter.
  • Roasted chicken prepared with capers and a white wine butter sauce.
  • Charred octopus served with a chili glaze.

The Chef Behind Avo

Chef Nick Lama’s culinary journey began in his family’s kitchens, deeply influenced by his father’s experience in the restaurant industry. Lama worked at notable establishments, including Muriel’s and Gautreau’s, before establishing Avo with his wife, Melissa.
