Philadelphia is preparing to honor the memory of Officer Andy Chan, who lost his life on December 2, 2023. He served in the Philadelphia Highway Patrol and faced a long struggle following a critical injury sustained in a motorcycle crash nearly seven years prior.
Funeral Details for Officer Andy Chan
Officer Chan’s funeral service will take place on Tuesday at the Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul in Center City. His casket was transported from the funeral home in Northeast Philadelphia, accompanied by a police procession.
Viewing and Services Information
- Final Viewing: 8:15 a.m. to 10:40 a.m. at the Cathedral.
- Funeral Service: Scheduled for noon, with reserved seating for family, friends, law enforcement, and dignitaries.
The community came together for a public viewing on the evening prior, held at Holy Redeemer Chinese Catholic Church. Many law enforcement members and community residents gathered to pay their final respects to the 55-year-old officer.
Officer Andy Chan’s Legacy
Chan’s life was marked by dedication. He served in the Philadelphia Police Department for 24 years. His career took a tragic turn in 2019 when a driver struck his motorcycle in the Holmesburg area, leading to years of intensive medical care.
Originally from Chinatown, Officer Chan attended elementary school at Holy Redeemer Chinese Catholic Church, the same location where his community celebrated his life and contributions. His service and sacrifices will be remembered by both residents and fellow officers.
