Stanford Cardinal Reveals 2026 Schedule Updates
Stanford University has announced its updated football schedule for the 2026 season, revealing new opponents and dates. This announcement comes from the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC), confirming essential changes to the team’s matchups.
Stanford Football’s 2026 ACC Opponents
As part of a new scheduling model by the ACC, each team will engage in a nine-game conference schedule. This decision aligns the ACC with other Power 4 conferences including the Big 12, Big Ten, and SEC. From 2026 onwards, Stanford will face nine conference opponents, with 12 out of 17 ACC teams adopting this format.
Home and Away Games
In the 2026 season, Stanford will host four teams at its home ground:
- Georgia Tech
- Miami
- NC State
- SMU
In addition, the Cardinal will participate in five away conference games:
- California
- Duke
- Louisville
- Virginia Tech
- Wake Forest
Notably, Stanford’s game against Virginia Tech at Lane Stadium marks the team’s inaugural visit to this venue. Their first encounter took place during the 2011 Orange Bowl, where Stanford won decisively with a score of 40-12.
Bill Walsh Legacy Game Updates
Changes have also been made to the Bill Walsh Legacy Game against San Jose State. The 2026 game originally set for late November in San Jose has been rescheduled to September 20, 2031. The teams will meet again on November 25, 2028, at Stanford Stadium, with additional matches scheduled for 2034 and 2036.
New Nonconference Matchup
Furthermore, Stanford will play a nonconference game against Elon on October 17, 2026. This will mark the first-ever meeting between the Cardinal and the Phoenix. Elon has previously squared off against ACC teams, including a season opener against Duke in the last two years.
As Stanford prepares for the 2026 season, there remains one more game to schedule against a Power 4 opponent. The complete details of the 2026 season schedule will be released by the ACC in late January.
