Idaho Football has appointed Ian Shoemaker as the new Offensive Coordinator and Quarterbacks Coach, following a national search led by Head Coach Thomas Ford Jr. This decision is subject to HR approval, with Shoemaker expected to be introduced in a forthcoming press conference.

Experience and Achievements

Shoemaker comes with nearly thirty years of coaching experience across various levels, including FBS, FCS, and Division II. He has a track record of success, particularly noted for leading one of the most potent offenses in Big Sky Conference history.

Previous Successes

Before joining Idaho, Shoemaker held the position of Offensive Coordinator/Quarterbacks Coach at Grand Valley State, where he directed the Lakers to an outstanding 18-5 record. His offensive strategies ranked them in the top 25 nationally for total offense and scoring in the 2024 season.

Coaching Background

Prior to his time at Grand Valley State, Shoemaker was the co-offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach in Hawaii. He also served at Eastern Washington, where he produced a high-powered offense averaging 537 yards and over 40 points per game. Under his guidance, quarterback Eric Barriere was a finalist for the Walter Payton Award and won it in 2021.

Earlier in his career, Shoemaker was the head coach at Central Washington, achieving a 45-20 record and two conference championships. He also earned accolades as the Division II Regional Coach of the Year in 2017.
