Los Angeles Lakers center Deandre Ayton has been awarded the NBA Cares Bob Lanier Community Assist Award for November. This prestigious recognition comes from the National Basketball Association (NBA) and the National Basketball Players Association (NBPA).

Ayton’s Community Initiatives

Deandre Ayton is being celebrated for his significant contributions to community well-being. He has led hurricane relief efforts in Jamaica and initiated programs promoting food access and cultural equity among underrepresented youth in Los Angeles.

Financial Support for Community Efforts

• The NBA and NBPA Foundation will donate $20,000 to the Ayton Family Foundation (AFF) in his honor.
• Ayton committed $100,000 to rebuilding endeavors following Hurricane Melissa.
• He pledged funds for long-term rebuilding efforts in 2026.

Recent Accomplishments in Jamaica

In July, Ayton and the AFF reopened the Cedar Spring Community Center in St. Elizabeth Parish, Jamaica. This center, his mother’s hometown, has been transformed into a hub for education, health, and recreational activities.

• Ayton hosted a community day for over 100 children and families, providing free services, including medical check-ups and school supplies.
• The center now serves as a safe space for youth programming and family engagement.

Efforts in Los Angeles

In addition to his work in Jamaica, Ayton launched the Ayton Alley Oop Program in Los Angeles. This initiative donates tickets to Lakers games and other sporting events for youth from underserved communities.

Collaborating with organizations like the Boys & Girls Club, Salvation Army, and SüprMarkt LA, the AFF is advancing food justice and cultural inclusion. Ayton also donated $25,000 to support SüprMarkt LA’s SNAP BACK initiative, which provides essential fresh produce and healthy meals to families in need.

Honoring Bob Lanier’s Legacy

The NBA Cares Bob Lanier Community Assist Award honors the legacy of NBA legend Bob Lanier. Lanier served as an NBA League Office executive and an NBA Cares Ambassador for over 30 years.

This award celebrates players’ commitment to positively impacting their communities throughout the NBA season. Each season features an offseason winner, followed by seven monthly awards. The offseason winner receives the Bob Lanier trophy, and monthly winners receive the David Robinson trophy, alongside a donation made to a charity of the winner’s choice.
