Lucas Highlights Santa Seth in UNC Athletics
The Tar Heels recently showcased the spirit of community engagement, spearheaded by basketball player Seth Trimble. On an off day for Carolina Basketball, he organized an ice cream party at the Chapel Hill Boys and Girls Club, demonstrating his commitment to giving back.
Seth Trimble’s Ice Cream Party at the Boys and Girls Club
Despite it being a scheduled rest day following a victory over East Tennessee State, Trimble initiated this event on his own. He partnered with JBL and Learfield to treat dozens of local children to a Ben & Jerry’s ice cream party. This initiative echoed Head Coach Hubert Davis’s sentiment about sharing blessings with the community.
Community Impact and Generosity
- Trimble surprised attendees with JBL headphones, capturing the joy of the kids.
- This wasn’t his first interaction with the Boys & Girls Club; he had previously helped secure an outdoor basketball goal for them in 2024.
- Club director, Charlotte Makoyo, praised Trimble for going beyond expectations and being a role model for the children.
Miss Charlotte, a Navy veteran and respected figure at the Club since 2017, made sure the ice cream party ran smoothly. Her humorous yet strict rules kept kids in line as they awaited their treats.
A Memorable Day for the Kids
The highlight of the day extended beyond ice cream. Trimble took the time to interact with the children, signing numerous items, including hats and yearbooks. His willingness to engage left a lasting impression.
As the day unfolded, children ran to him, eager to secure his autograph and share their aspirations. Trimble even lightheartedly challenged one young boy, stating he would score 50 points against him using his non-dominant hand.
Parents arriving to pick up their children noted the reluctance of the kids to leave, highlighting the meaningful connections made during the event. Trimble focused on teamwork in his discussions, making sure to include his teammates in his reflections. He acknowledged the importance of their presence in the community and how they serve as inspirations for the youth.
Giving Back to the Community
“It’s super important to give back,” Trimble stated. He recognizes that experiences like these are rare for local children. For many, Tar Heel players represent not just athletes, but role models fostering hope and ambition.
Through events like this, Trimble is redefining what it means to be a student-athlete—showcasing that their influence can extend far beyond the basketball court.
