Agyemang Wins Young Sports Personality Award

Michelle Agyemang has been awarded the prestigious BBC Young Sports Personality of the Year 2025. This recognition comes after an impressive performance that helped the England women’s national football team, the Lionesses, secure victory at Euro 2025, held in Switzerland.

A Breakthrough Year

At just 19 years old, Agyemang experienced a remarkable year in her football career. She made her senior international debut only three months before the Euros and played a crucial role in the team’s success. Agyemang came off the bench to score pivotal late goals in both the quarter-final against Sweden and the semi-final against Italy.

Acknowledgment and Achievements

Her outstanding contributions during the tournament earned her the title of young player of the tournament. Additionally, Agyemang received the Golden Girl trophy, recognizing her as the best young player in Europe.

Gratitude for Support

Upon receiving her award, Agyemang expressed her heartfelt gratitude. “Wow. Thank you so much. I am so grateful. To all my teammates and coaches, I am so thankful,” she stated. She also thanked her family for their unwavering support throughout her young career, saying, “I love you.” Furthermore, she acknowledged her faith, saying, “A big thank you to God for this opportunity.”

Recognition in the Football World

Agyemang’s impressive performance has also led to her nomination for the Kopa Trophy, an award for the world’s best under-21 female player. Her potential has garnered significant attention in the football community.

Club Performance

Agyemang is currently on loan at Brighton, having joined the club from Arsenal in September 2024. She was re-signed on loan in August 2025 after her successful showing with the national team. Last season, she scored five goals over 22 appearances, helping Brighton achieve their highest finish in the Women’s Super League, where they placed fifth.

Injury and Future

Unfortunately, Agyemang has faced a setback. She sustained a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament injury while playing for the Lionesses in October 2025. This injury will keep her out for the remainder of the 2025-26 season, posing challenges for her career ahead.
