Lucas: Santa Seth Highlights UNC Athletic Excellence

On a recent off day for Carolina Basketball, Seth Trimble organized a special event to connect with the community. While the Tar Heels had won against East Tennessee State and were preparing for their next big match against Ohio State, Trimble chose to spend his time giving back. He hosted an ice cream party at the Chapel Hill Boys and Girls Club, benefiting dozens of local children.

Enhancing Community Ties

Trimble’s initiative was realized in partnership with brands JBL and Learfield. The event showcased a deeper message from Coach Hubert Davis about the importance of community. Trimble surprised the kids with JBL headphones, which were met with enthusiasm and excitement.

A Celebration of Giving

This was not Trimble’s first engagement with the Boys and Girls Club. In 2024, he contributed an outdoor basketball goal to the facility. “If it wasn’t cold and dark, those kids would have Seth out there on that basketball court,” remarked Charlotte Makoyo, the club’s director of strategic development. “They adore him.” Makoyo, a Navy veteran, has dedicated her efforts to the club since 2017.

During the event, laughter filled the air as Makoyo established rules like, “Use your words!” in a fun, structured manner for the kids eager for ice cream. The excitement was palpable as Trimble took the time to interact personally with each child, going beyond just signing autographs.

Unforgettable Moments

Trimble signed a variety of items: hats, shoes, and even contributed to conversations about basketball skills. One child cheekily claimed he could beat Trimble on the court, to which Trimble jokingly replied, “Nah, I would give you 50!”

While ice cream brought joy, the highlight of the day was the personal connections made. Trimble posed for photos and engaged in meaningful conversations. He highlighted the importance of giving back, stating, “These kids don’t get a lot of experiences like this. They see us as role models.”
