American Airlines Launches Nonstop Flights from Lincoln to Dallas, Chicago, Phoenix

Lincoln Airport is set to expand its travel options, thanks to American Airlines. Starting in June 2026, the airline will introduce nonstop flights to Dallas/Fort Worth and Chicago. It will also offer seasonal winter flights to Phoenix.

Details of the New Flights

American Airlines will operate twice-daily flights to Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) and daily flights to Chicago O’Hare (ORD). The seasonal service to Phoenix (PHX) will commence later in Winter 2026.

Community Support and Economic Impact

The addition of these routes marks a significant expansion for Lincoln Airport. Airport officials stated that this decision was influenced by strong demand from the local community. Chris Hove, chair of the Lincoln Airport Authority Board, highlighted the positive impact of these flights, estimating an economic benefit of about $75 million for the area.

  • Seasonal winter service to PHX

Market Analysis

A recent survey targeting nearly 350 local businesses indicated that almost 40% regularly travel to the Dallas/Fort Worth area. Currently, DFW ranks as Lincoln’s third-largest air travel market, with around 150 passengers flying between the two cities daily.

Popular Destination: Phoenix

Phoenix has been a popular choice among travelers in Lincoln, often ranking as one of the most requested destinations. Rachel Barth, director of air service development at Lincoln Airport, noted that the new flights will allow direct access to this sought-after market. Despite this high demand, only about 5% of travelers currently reach Phoenix using Lincoln Airport due to the lack of nonstop options.

Flight Operations

American Airlines will utilize CRJ-700 and CRJ-900 aircraft on these routes. Passengers can choose from different seating options, including First Class, Main Cabin Extra, and Main Cabin, catering to business travelers’ preferences.

Future Growth at Lincoln Airport

The airport is experiencing substantial growth. By July 4, 2026, it is expected to have 14 daily departures to five destinations on three airlines—an increase of 81% in available seats compared to the previous year.

Support from Leaders

U.S. Senator Deb Fischer praised this expansion, emphasizing its importance for Nebraska’s economy and connectivity. She stated that the new service enhances Lincoln Airport’s role as a vital transportation hub.
