Gusty Winds and Rain Leave Thousands Without Power in Rhode Island
Gusty winds and heavy rain caused significant disruptions in Rhode Island, leaving thousands of customers without electricity. On Friday afternoon, approximately 20,000 Rhode Island Energy customers reported power outages as a strong storm system swept through the region.
Power Outages Across Rhode Island
The Rhode Island power outage map highlighted that at one point, around 14,905 customers were without power. These outages were widespread, affecting various neighborhoods across the state, including the Valley neighborhood in Providence, which experienced some of the highest outage numbers.
Weather Warnings Issued
In anticipation of this storm, Storm Team 10 issued a Weather Alert. The alert warned residents of high wind gusts and heavy rainfall that could further exacerbate the situation. The Rhode Island Turnpike and Bridge Authority also implemented restrictions on certain bridges due to the severe weather conditions.

Only specific vehicles were allowed to cross these bridges around noon. Permitted vehicles included automobiles, pickup trucks, flatbed trailers, and commercial buses. This measure was taken to ensure safety amidst the hazardous weather.
