Maresca Denies Man City Rumors; Guardiola Discusses His Future

Enzo Maresca, the Chelsea head coach, has firmly denied speculation linking him to the managerial position at Manchester City. He emphasized that his focus remains solely on his responsibilities at Stamford Bridge.

Maresca Addresses Manchester City Speculation

During a pre-match press conference, Maresca described the rumors as “100 percent speculation.” He highlighted his commitment to Chelsea, stating he has a contract that extends until 2029. “My focus is just about this club, and I’m very proud to be here,” he remarked.

Maresca previously served as both head coach of Manchester City’s Elite Development Squad and as an assistant under Pep Guardiola. He took over as Chelsea’s head coach on July 1, 2024, following his tenure at Leicester City, which began in June 2023.

Guardiola Discusses His Future

Pep Guardiola also addressed questions about his future at Manchester City during a press conference ahead of their upcoming match against West Ham United. He acknowledged that discussions about succession are currently “not on the table.” With 18 months remaining on his contract, Guardiola stated he is satisfied with the team’s performance and development.

“I will not be here forever, but whatever is going to happen will happen,” he said. Guardiola acknowledged that speculation about his future arises every season but stressed that his main focus is on upcoming matches and immediate goals.

Current Team Performance

  • Manchester City is currently in second place in the Premier League.
  • They are only two points behind league leaders Arsenal.
  • Guardiola noted that while the team’s mentality and commitment are strong, improvements are needed to reach the level required to win the title.

As Chelsea and Manchester City prepare for their upcoming fixtures, both coaches remain focused on their respective teams, putting speculation aside for now.
