Noddy Holder Skips Christmas Dining to Avoid Slade Song Attention
Noddy Holder, the iconic lead singer of the band Slade, has chosen to skip dining out on Christmas Day. This decision stems from the overwhelming attention his famous song, “Merry Xmas Everybody,” receives during the festive season.
Noddy Holder: A Christmas Tradition
During a recent interview with BBC Radio WM, Suzan Holder, Noddy’s wife, shared insights into their holiday customs. She mentioned that they find it somewhat uncomfortable to dine in public when his classic Christmas hit plays.
- The song “Merry Xmas Everybody” debuted in December 1973.
- It often resurfaces on UK singles charts each Christmas season.
- When it plays, diners typically turn to see the couple, adding to the awkwardness.
A Unique Christmas Morning
On Christmas morning, Suzan revealed a delightful tradition. Noddy awakens her by singing his iconic line, “It’s Christmas,” from the song. She clarified that this performance is exclusive to Christmas Day, countering the belief that he sings it daily.
Beyond music, Noddy is known for his culinary skills. Suzan described his Christmas dinners as exceptional, particularly praising his roast potatoes.
Slade and Its Legacy
Holder was the frontman of Slade for 26 years, until 1992. The band is celebrated as one of the most successful British acts of the 1970s, with numerous hits such as “Cum On Feel The Noize” and “Coz I Luv You.”
A Health Journey
At 79 years old, Noddy faced a serious health challenge. In 2018, he was diagnosed with oesophageal cancer and given only six months to live. However, he made a remarkable recovery thanks to treatment at The Christie hospital in Manchester.
Last December, he announced a return to performing. Since then, he has been playing with a ten-piece boogie jazz band, reigniting his passion for music.
