Nationwide Rain and Snow Tomorrow; Poor Air Quality in Capital Region
On Monday, October 29, weather conditions across South Korea will vary, as most regions will experience cloudy skies. However, central regions and parts of North Gyeongsang Province will see clearer conditions develop from the evening.
Weather Forecast: Rain and Snow Expected Nationwide
Starting in the early hours and lasting into the afternoon, rain and snow are anticipated in various areas, excluding the eastern coast of Gangwon Province. The southern coast of Gyeongnam and Jeju Island will also witness light rainfall in the morning, while northern Jeolla Province and inland areas of North Gyeongsang will experience slight precipitation in the afternoon.
- Expected precipitation in North Gyeongsang’s inland areas is around 1 mm.
- From October 28 to 29, Seoul, Incheon, Gyeonggi, and other western coastal areas anticipate rainfall of about 5 mm.
- While southeastern Gyeonggi is projected to see around 1 cm of snowfall, Gangwon Province’s mountainous areas may receive 3 to 8 cm of snow.
Impact of Snow and Rain
The significant snowfall, particularly in the Gangwon inland and mountainous areas, could lead to dangerous icy roads. Motorists should remain vigilant due to the anticipated rate of approximately 1 cm of snow per hour early in the day.
Poor Air Quality Forecasted in the Capital Region
As for air quality, the mid-western regions will start to experience elevated levels of fine dust pollution. From late morning, foreign particulate matter will move southeast, causing increased pollution levels in most areas.
- Regions including the capital area, Gangwon Yeongseo, and parts of Chungcheong are likely to see “bad” air quality.
- In contrast, areas such as Gangwon Yeongdong are expected to experience improved conditions in the afternoon.
Temperature and Sea Conditions
Temperature forecasts for the day indicate a low of -3 to 7 degrees Celsius in the morning and a high of 5 to 14 degrees Celsius later in the day. The sea will experience waves ranging from 0.5 to 1.5 meters in the coastal waters of the East Sea, West Sea, and South Sea. Offshore in the East Sea, waves could reach heights of 1.0 to 3.5 meters.
Residents are advised to prepare for both the inclement weather and the worsening air quality as this dynamic weather system affects the region.
