On Saturday, a significant incident involving gunfire occurred during a police confrontation on the Southwest Side of Chicago. Two teenage suspects, each aged 17, were arrested after allegedly threatening a female victim with a firearm.

The event unfolded around 3:35 p.m. in the 3700 block of West 71st Street in West Lawn. According to the Chicago Police Department (CPD), the victim reported that a male suspect in a Chevrolet SUV aimed a gun at her during a verbal dispute.

Police Action

  • CPD officers identified the suspected vehicle shortly after the incident.
  • The driver, a 17-year-old male, was arrested without resistance, and a firearm was recovered from him.
  • A second male suspect, also aged 17, attempted to flee the scene after exiting the vehicle.

Firearm Discharges During Struggle

While attempting to apprehend the second suspect, officers engaged in a physical struggle. During this confrontation, a firearm concealed on the suspect accidentally discharged. Fortunately, no injuries were reported during the entire ordeal.
