Canada Issues Multiple Winter Storm and Freezing Rain Warnings
Canadians are bracing for a series of winter storms and freezing rain across multiple provinces. This weather event is bringing significant precipitation, including snow, rain, and ice.
Winter Storm Warnings Across Canada
The West Coast is particularly affected. Several areas in British Columbia, especially near the Yukon border, will experience heavy snow. Communities such as Atlin and Hyland River Park are expected to receive around 15 centimeters of snow. Meanwhile, northern coastal regions like Kitimat and Terrace could see totals of 20 to 30 centimeters by Sunday evening.
Environment Canada warns that freezing rain will mix with snow throughout the day, transitioning to rain and snow overnight. Additionally, a flood watch is in effect for rivers near Prince Rupert and Haida Gwaii, where rainfall may reach up to 150 millimeters by Monday morning.
Cold Conditions in Alberta and Saskatchewan

Major urban centers such as Windsor, London, Niagara Falls, and Toronto are forecasted to receive rainfall amounts between 30 to 60 millimeters, accompanied by winds reaching up to 80 kilometers per hour.
- Oshawa, Kingston, and Ottawa are under freezing rain warnings with potential ice accumulation up to 20 millimeters.
- Heavy snow is also expected in Huntsville, Sudbury, Manitoulin Island, and Sault Ste. Marie.
- In some locations of northern Ontario, snowfall may reach 20 to 40 centimeters.
Quebec’s Winter Weather Outlook
Much of southern, central, and eastern Quebec is under similar winter weather alerts. Cities like Papineau, Montreal, and Longueuil face orange warnings for freezing rain, with five to 15 millimeters of precipitation starting Sunday night. Furthermore, parts of Quebec, including the provincial capital, are likely to experience winter storm conditions starting Monday, with close to 15 centimeters of snow expected.
Maritime Weather Forecast
The Maritimes will see rainy and snowy conditions begin on Monday. In southern New Brunswick, excluding the Fundy Coast, and throughout western, central, and southern Nova Scotia, freezing rain is anticipated. Forecasts indicate:
- New Brunswick will receive five to ten millimeters of freezing rain, preceded by snow and ice pellets.
- Nova Scotia may see four to eight millimeters of freezing rain.
- Northern areas of New Brunswick are expected to receive over 15 centimeters of snow.
