Mecole Hardman Jr. has played in more Super Bowls than games with the Buffalo Bills. The team released the three-time Super Bowl champion after just two games. Hardman’s time in Buffalo included limited participation due to an injury that saw him on injured reserve for four games.

Buffalo Bills Make Roster Changes

On Saturday, the Bills announced the release of Hardman, followed by several roster adjustments ahead of their home game against the Philadelphia Eagles. Hardman managed only four offensive snaps and nine special teams snaps during his brief tenure, alongside a 61-yard kickoff return.

Hardman’s Brief Stint with Buffalo

Hardman made his debut with the Bills on November 16, during Week 11, where he had an impressive kickoff return for 61 yards. However, his performance took a downturn after he fumbled a punt return and subsequently dealt with a calf injury. His overall stats with the Bills included:

  • Four offensive snaps
  • Nine special teams snaps
  • One kickoff return for 61 yards
  • Two punt returns for four yards

While Hardman was celebrated for his Pro Bowl selection as a rookie kick returner in 2019, he struggled to secure a consistent role within Buffalo’s offense or special teams. In contrast, rookie running back Ray Davis emerged as the leading kickoff returner, boasting an average of 31.0 yards on 27 returns.

Injuries Prompt Additional Moves

With Hardman’s departure, the Bills made additional roster moves. Keleki Latu was signed from the practice squad to the active roster to cover for injured tight ends Dawson Knox and Dalton Kincaid, both of whom are questionable for Week 17. Latu’s signing was imperative given his role as a reliable blocker, fulfilling the team’s needs in the run game.

Future Outlook for Buffalo’s Tight Ends

If Knox and Kincaid remain sidelined, Latu will team up with rookie Jackson Hawes, as the only two healthy tight ends available. Latu has played in three games this season, recording one reception.

Kicker Michael Badgley Elevated Again

Additionally, kicker Michael Badgley was elevated again as he continues to fill in for Matt Prater, who is struggling with a quadriceps injury. In his previous game against the Browns, Badgley successfully completed a 41-yard field goal and converted two of three extra points.

As the Bills prepare for their upcoming matchup, these roster changes reflect their ongoing adjustments to navigate injuries and optimize team performance.
