Raptors Secure Mo Bamba with One-Year Contract
The Toronto Raptors have finalized a one-year contract with center Mo Bamba, aiming to address their size deficiencies. Bamba showcased his potential during the G League Winter Showcase, where he played for the Salt Lake City Stars. Sportsnet confirmed that Bamba’s contract will not be guaranteed until January 10, raising expectations among fans and analysts alike.
Mo Bamba’s Performance Highlights
Bamba, who was selected sixth overall by the Orlando Magic in the 2018 NBA Draft, had a standout performance at the Winter Showcase. He contributed significantly to the Stars’ victory against the Raptors 905, Toronto’s G League affiliate, by scoring 17 points and grabbing 12 rebounds in the championship game.
Impressive G League Stats
During his time with the Utah Jazz’s G League affiliate, Bamba produced remarkable averages:
- Points per game: 16.5
- Rebounds per game: 11.9
- Blocks per game: 2.7
- Shooting percentage from the field: 54.4%
- Shooting percentage from three-point range: 37.7%
Despite not playing in the NBA this season, Bamba’s G League performances have demonstrated his readiness for a return to the league.
Previous NBA Experience
Prior to this season, Bamba played for the New Orleans Pelicans and the Los Angeles Clippers. In the previous season, he averaged 4.3 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 1.0 blocks over 32 games.
Raptors’ Center Depth Issues
The Raptors currently hold a 19-14 record but have encountered challenges related to center depth. Their starting center, Jakob Poeltl, has been dealing with persistent back issues, which have limited him to just 21 games this season.
Bamba’s arrival could provide much-needed support to the Raptors as they navigate their roster challenges moving forward.
