Freddie Flintoff has lent his support to the appeal for a new MediCinema at the Manchester Royal Infirmary. This innovative project aims to enhance the hospital experience for patients by bringing films to the hospital environment.

MediCinema Project Overview

The MediCinema is set to occupy a former lecture theatre within the Manchester Royal Infirmary. It will be accessible to all facilities across the Oxford Road campus. The cinema will feature:

  • Cinema-style seating
  • Space for wheelchairs and hospital beds
  • Medical equipment availability
  • Inclusive elements like subtitles and audio descriptions
  • Sensory-friendly screenings

Film Showings and Support

Once operational, the MediCinema will host up to 260 film showings each year. These screenings will be facilitated by trained volunteers and MediCinema nurses. Additionally, personalized screenings will be provided for patients with special needs.

Community and Celebrity Support

Kathy Cowell, chair of Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust, expressed gratitude to the numerous individuals and businesses who contributed to the project. She acknowledged the challenges of fundraising during this busy season.

The appeal has also garnered support from notable figures such as Wayne and Coleen Rooney, comedian Jason Manford, and several Manchester United players, including:

  • Senne Lammens
  • Ayden Heaven
  • Manuel Ugarte
  • Tom Heaton

This backing underscores the community’s commitment to improving patient welfare through entertainment and support. The project aims to create a comforting environment for those facing challenging health situations.
