Market Trends and Consumer Preferences

Markku Ala-Hakuni, the sales director, noted that Finnish consumers favor affordable cars. This preference led to an increased demand for budget-friendly vehicles, resulting in a drop of over €1,000 in the average sale price of used cars compared to the previous year.

Another dealer, Saka, reported similar trends. Their best-selling models included the Škoda Octavia, Mercedes-Benz C-Class, Volkswagen Passat, Volvo XC60, and Volkswagen Golf, reflecting the longstanding popularity of these models.

Shifts Towards Electric Vehicles

The transition to electric vehicles on the used car market is occurring, albeit slower than in the new car sector. Nevertheless, J. Rinta-Jouppi observed a more rapid adoption than initially expected. According to Ala-Hakuni, regulatory pushes for lower emissions are shaping new car offerings towards electric options.

In 2025, sales of fully electric cars surged by around 70%. Over the past four years, the market share of used electric and hybrid vehicles increased by about 10%. Despite this growth, gasoline and diesel vehicles still constituted around 75% of the used cars sold by J. Rinta-Jouppi.
