Tunnel to Towers to Pay Off Slain Delaware Trooper’s Family Mortgage
On December 29, 2025, the Tunnel to Towers Foundation revealed plans to pay off the mortgage of the late Delaware State Trooper Corporal Matthew T. “Ty” Snook. Tragically, Corporal Snook, aged 34, was fatally shot on December 23 while on duty at a Delaware Division of Motor Vehicles office. His heroic final act involved saving a DMV employee from harm before losing his life.
Corporal Snook’s family includes his wife and their one-year-old daughter, who will now grow up without her father. The Tunnel to Towers Foundation aims to complete the mortgage payment for the Snook family by New Year’s Day. This initiative marks the start of the Foundation’s goal to deliver 343 mortgage-free homes in 2026, honoring the 343 firefighters lost during the 9/11 attacks.
Tunnel to Towers’ Mortgage Payoff Initiative
The mortgage payoff for the Snook family will be the inaugural project in a broader effort by the Tunnel to Towers Foundation to support families of first responders and fallen military heroes. Here are key details of the initiative:
- 343 Homes: A total of 343 homes will be provided in 2026.
- Programs: The homes will be offered through various programs:
- Fallen First Responder Home Program
- Smart Home Program for injured veterans and first responders
- Gold Star Family Home Program
- Tribute: The effort commemorates the 25th anniversary of September 11, 2001.
Foundation Mission and Community Support
Frank Siller, the Foundation’s Chairman and CEO, expressed the organization’s commitment to honoring Corporal Snook’s bravery. He stated, “Corporal Snook’s final act was not to seek safety for himself, but to get a stranger out of harm’s way.” The Foundation’s mission extends beyond this initiative, aiming to provide mortgage-free homes and eradicate veteran homelessness.
