As America approaches its 250th anniversary, a grand celebration is set to unfold in Times Square. The event, dubbed America250, is coordinated by a nonpartisan organization established by Congress. It aims to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.

New Year’s Eve Celebration

On December 31, 2025, at midnight, a historic moment will occur. Times Square will light up with an America250 design, heralding the start of the Semiquincentennial year. The celebration will include a stunning display of 2,000 pounds of red, white, and blue confetti.

Special Features of the Event

• A surprise second ceremonial celebration at approximately 12:04 a.m. EST
• Re-lit Times Square Ball with illuminated “2026” numerals
• First-ever post-midnight video release titled “America Turns 250”
• A dynamic pyro finale synchronized with Ray Charles’ rendition of “America the Beautiful”

America250 plans to return to Times Square on July 3, 2026, for a second groundbreaking Ball Drop. This will be the first occurrence of the Ball dropping outside New Year’s Eve, serving to anchor nationwide Fourth of July festivities and reinforcing New York City’s pivotal role in the Semiquincentennial.
