Sir Anthony Hopkins recently celebrated a remarkable milestone: 50 years of sobriety. The acclaimed actor emphasized the importance of seeking help for addiction in a heartfelt video message shared on his Instagram.

Important Milestone in Sobriety

The Welsh actor, who is turning 88 in just two days, reflected on his long journey to sobriety. He revealed that the turning point came after a life-threatening incident on December 29, 1975, when he experienced a “drunken blackout” while driving.

In his message, Hopkins said, “I got help and 50 years ago today was the end.” He encouraged anyone facing similar struggles to “choose life instead of the opposite.”

A Life Transformed

Hopkins shared that he realized he was “having too much fun,” a behavior he later recognized as alcoholism. He advised anyone grappling with drinking issues to seek assistance, noting that “life is much better.”

In addition to celebrating his sobriety, Sir Anthony acknowledged others in recovery. He encouraged individuals to take it “one day at a time.” He also mentioned, “I’m also going to be 88 in two days’ time, so maybe I did something right.”

In a past conversation at the University of California in 2018, Hopkins opened up about his struggles with alcoholism. He admitted to being “very difficult to work with” during his early career due to frequent hangovers.
