Auburn University is facing significant changes within its football program as freshman quarterback Deuce Knight plans to enter the transfer portal. This development marks the departure of another promising player from the Tigers’ lineup.

Behind Deuce Knight’s Departure

According to sources, Knight has informed the coaching staff of his intentions to transfer. He becomes the third quarterback from Auburn to consider leaving, joining fellow quarterbacks Jackson Arnold and Ashton Daniels, who also plan to enter the portal.

Impressive Performance

During the 2023 season, Knight participated in only two games. However, he made a notable impact in his sole start against Mercer. In that game, Auburn won decisively, with a score of 62-17. Knight threw for 239 yards and two touchdowns, completing 15 of 20 passes. Additionally, he rushed for an impressive 162 yards and scored four touchdowns on just nine carries.

Recent Trends at Auburn

This situation isn’t an isolated incident. For the second consecutive year, a highly regarded freshman quarterback is leaving Auburn. Last year, Walker White transferred to Baylor shortly after his first season.

Auburn’s Quarterback Situation

Despite Knight’s quick departure, he retains four years of eligibility, as his participation in the 2023 season allowed him to maintain his redshirt status.

With both Knight and Arnold likely leaving the program, Auburn’s only scholarship quarterback is incoming freshman Rhys Brush. This creates an urgent need for Auburn to address their quarterback position through the transfer portal.

Transfer Portal Timeline

  • The transfer portal officially opens on January 2.
  • It will remain open for 15 days, until January 16.
  • There will be no additional spring transfer portal window this year.

As Auburn navigates these changes, the search for a new quarterback will be critical to the team’s future success.
