Liberty Bell Replica to Ring on Cherry Street Pier for New Year’s Eve
A 2,000-pound replica of the iconic Liberty Bell will make its debut at Cherry Street Pier on New Year’s Eve. This event is part of the city’s annual New Year’s on the Pier celebration, scheduled for Wednesday night. The bell, crafted by the same foundry as the original in London, will be a centerpiece for the festivities.
Logistics of Transporting the Replica Bell
The logistics of moving such a significant artifact have required extensive planning. Alaine K. Arnott, the president and CEO of the National Liberty Museum, shared insights into the preparation. “We’ve done a couple of months of prep,” she remarked, highlighting challenges like renting a forklift and securing a suitable truck for transport through Philadelphia.
New Year’s Eve Events
This year, two distinct ticketed events will take place on the pier. The New Year’s Eve Kids Countdown runs from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. and offers music, crafts, and giveaways. Tickets for this family-friendly event are priced at $27, with free admission for children aged 2 and under.

The celebration features two fireworks displays as part of the Visit PA New Year’s Eve Fireworks on the Waterfront. The first show is scheduled for 6 p.m., with a second display at midnight. Additionally, a separate concert will occur on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway, headlined by LL Cool J.
Symbolism of the Liberty Bell
Arnott expressed the bell’s significance, stating, “It is a fantastic symbol and representative of our country.” She noted that it serves as a vital reminder of the importance of liberty. The chance for attendees to ring the bell adds to the excitement of the event.
Looking Forward to 2026
This New Year’s Eve marks the kickoff of the Semiquincentennial celebration, honoring the United States’ 250th birthday. Arnott hopes the bell will play a prominent role in events leading up to this milestone, particularly during Major League Baseball’s All-Star Game and the FIFA World Cup, both of which will take place in Philadelphia next year.
