The letter stated, “The recurring nature of these outages indicates systemic vulnerabilities that require urgent and permanent solutions.” Business owners emphasized the inadequacy of reactive repairs and their ongoing costs despite the power failures.

A spokesperson for SP Energy Networks acknowledged the intermittent problems affecting the Grassmarket area. They are working diligently to resolve these issues in time for the Hogmanay festivities.

Recent outages were attributed to a low voltage protection fuse operation due to an intermittent fault. Power disruptions were reported on Tuesday, with customers experiencing outages from 15:00 to 17:00 and again from 18:00 to 20:00. The spokesperson apologized for the inconvenience caused and recognized the problem’s timing during a busy holiday period.
