Ring in the New Year with Calgary Celebrations
As the year comes to a close, Calgary is set to host a variety of exciting events to ring in the New Year. From family-friendly celebrations to festive fireworks, there is something for everyone in the city.
Highlight Events in Calgary for New Year’s Eve
Eau Claire Plaza Celebration
The main celebration at Eau Claire Plaza offers a host of activities before the midnight fireworks display. Highlights include:
- Live entertainment
- Food trucks
- Skating dance party on Prince’s Island Lagoon
Admission is free, and skate rentals will be available until midnight. The fireworks will be launched from Prince’s Island Park, with a blessing from Elder Bryan Little Chief. Mayor Jeromy Farkas will lead the countdown to midnight.
Fireworks Viewing Restrictions
To alleviate traffic congestion from previous years, access to popular viewing spots like McHugh Bluff and Rosedale will be restricted to residents only. A no-parking zone will be enforced along Eighth Ave. N.E., and part of Memorial Drive will close for safety.
Noon Year’s Eve at Telus Spark
Families can enjoy an earlier celebration at Telus Spark Science Centre. The activities start at 11 a.m., culminating in a balloon drop at noon and featuring hands-on science demonstrations throughout the day. General admission covers entry.
Library Celebrations
Multiple locations of the Calgary Public Library will host mock countdown events. These family-friendly functions, which include storytime and a DJ-led dance party, will commence at 1 p.m. at select branches. Fish Creek branch will start an hour later.
Young Hearts Old Souls Gala
The Young Hearts Old Souls organization will present a community potluck and talent show at South Fish Creek Recreation Association from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Local performances will also highlight the event.
A Luminous New Year’s Eve Concert
Choral fans can attend the Luminous New Year’s Eve concert at Bella Concert Hall at Mount Royal University. This event features Cuban and Latin American performances, starting at 7:30 p.m. Tickets begin at $58.
New Year’s Offerings at Local Venues
Several bars and restaurants are planning New Year’s festivities, such as:
- The Ship and Anchor: “British New Year” celebration from 11 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., with a mock countdown at 5 p.m.
- Cold Garden: The Malt Ball at Palace Theatre with a “space disco” theme, starting at 9 p.m.
- The Rec Room: New Year’s 2026 Extravaganza featuring The Arcane Five at 7 p.m., tickets starting at $80.
Transportation on New Year’s Eve
Calgary Transit will not offer free fares this year due to a lack of corporate sponsorship. Regular fares will apply, with extended CTrain service running until 4 a.m. Certain bus routes will operate until 3 a.m., and free shuttle buses will connect to fireworks locations from the Max Bell Centre and SAIT North Surface Lot.
Calgary is gearing up for a vibrant New Year’s Eve, filled with engaging activities and celebrations suitable for all ages. Whether you’re planning to join the fireworks at Eau Claire Plaza or enjoy a family event, there’s no shortage of ways to celebrate the New Year in Calgary.
