New Year’s Day Run
The first event is a New Year’s Day run, hosted by the “Running for the Hill of It” women’s running group in collaboration with Ad Astra Running. This noncompetitive run welcomes participants of all ages, including those with mobility devices. Options include a one-mile route and a 5K course. Participants will gather at 9 a.m. at Ad Astra Running, located at 835 Massachusetts St. Complimentary refreshments such as cookies, coffee, and mimosas will be provided after the run.
Hiking at Clinton State Park
For nature enthusiasts, Clinton State Park presents an opportunity to participate in an annual community hike. Scheduled for 11 a.m., this 1.5-mile trek along the Prairieview Nature Trail is considered moderate in difficulty and suitable for beginners. Hikers will enjoy views of Clinton Lake and can explore the recently added Storybook Trail. Leashed pets are allowed, enhancing the family-friendly atmosphere.
Mountain Biking on the River Levee Trail
The Lawrence Mountain Bike Club invites community members to its New Year’s Day Ride, set for noon. This beginner-friendly ride will take place on the River Levee Trail in North Lawrence. Although any bike may be used, participants are encouraged to bring mountain or gravel bikes. The meeting point is the levee trail parking lot at Second and Locust streets.
