Driver Charged After Fatal Midtown Toronto Hit-and-Run, Police Report
A serious incident occurred in midtown Toronto when a 70-year-old woman was fatally struck by two vehicles in a hit-and-run. The collision took place in the early morning hours near the intersection of Eglinton Avenue East and Dunfield Road, close to Yonge Street, around 7:15 a.m.
Details of the Incident
According to Toronto police, the victim had just completed grocery shopping and was crossing the street when she was hit. A westbound vehicle and an eastbound vehicle were involved in the collision. Sadly, the woman was pronounced dead shortly after the incident.
Driver Charged
Following the crash, the driver of the westbound vehicle, identified as a white Hyundai Venue, turned himself in to authorities around 11:30 a.m. Police arrested 48-year-old Hamid Abdul from Toronto. He is facing serious charges, including:
- Dangerous operation of a conveyance causing death
- Leaving the scene of an accident causing death
Abdul is scheduled to appear in a Toronto courtroom on Friday.
Investigation Status
Investigators are still searching for the second vehicle involved in the hit-and-run. The police have not provided any further details about this vehicle. Duty Inspector Scott Bradbury mentioned that special constables are actively pursuing leads, and updates would be available soon.
