James McConnell and Owen Beck are reportedly returning to Liverpool, as their loan spells are set to end prematurely with the upcoming January transfer window.

James McConnell Returns from Ajax

McConnell, a 21-year-old midfielder, was loaned to Ajax in August. However, he struggled to find playing time following the dismissal of head coach John Heitinga last month. He made seven appearances for the Dutch team, with his last match occurring on November 5 against Galatasaray in the UEFA Champions League.

After discussions with all parties involved, it has been decided that McConnell will head back to Merseyside. Liverpool will evaluate their options regarding another potential loan for him later in January.

Owen Beck’s Injury Plague

Owen Beck, a 23-year-old left-back, was loaned to Derby County in July. Unfortunately, he has been sidelined with an injury, missing out on any appearances for the Championship club. Last month, Beck underwent surgery to address a hamstring injury sustained during an under-21 match against Blackburn Rovers.

Following his recovery, Beck will remain at Liverpool for the remainder of the season to continue his rehabilitation. Like McConnell, he signed a long-term contract with Liverpool last summer.

Other Notable Transfers at Liverpool

  • James Norris, another talented academy graduate, is in talks for a permanent transfer to Shelbourne.
  • Norris had a successful loan spell at the Irish club, earning the title of 2025 Young Player of the Year.

As Liverpool prepares for their January activities, the return of McConnell and Beck highlights their proactive approach in managing player developments and injuries within the squad.
