On Tuesday, a serious incident occurred at the Indiana Jones attraction in Walt Disney World, Bay Lake, Florida. A cast member was injured while attempting to block a 440-pound boulder prop from reaching the audience during a performance of the Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular.

Incident Details

The boulder, with a diameter of 12 feet, veered off its usual path down a ramp. It bounced uncontrollably, similar to an oversized yoga ball, as a stunt performer attempted to evade it. This scene is reminiscent of the famous chase from the 1981 film “Raiders of the Lost Ark.”

Audience members captured the alarming incident on video, which later circulated on social media. The footage reveals the boulder prop bouncing onto an open stage, reaching heights of approximately 10 feet. As the boulder approached the crowd, the cast member ran to intercept it.

Injury and Recovery

Despite the cast member’s efforts, the boulder struck him after bouncing a second time to about 6 feet in height. He was knocked backward and fell to the ground. Fortunately, he received immediate assistance from fellow cast members and managed to stand with support after the incident.

Disney’s Response

A Disney spokesperson affirmed that the injured employee is in the process of recovery. The spokesperson stated, “We’re focused on supporting our cast member, who is recovering. Safety is at the heart of what we do.” As a precaution, there will be modifications to the show as the safety team conducts a thorough review of the situation.
