Royal Caribbean Updates Menu Offerings at Japanese Restaurant
The Royal Caribbean cruise line has made significant updates to the menu offerings at its popular Japanese restaurant, Izumi. Guests dining at the hibachi tables may notice changes in their meal options, particularly regarding included side dishes.
Menu Changes at Izumi’s Hibachi
Recent feedback from cruisers indicates that grilled vegetables are no longer part of the hibachi dinner. Diners have reported that only fried rice and protein are being served at the hibachi tables. Multiple guests confirmed this change on social media platforms and cruise forums.
Confirmed Guest Experiences
- One guest stated, “No veggies were offered other than edamame,” at Izumi on the Allure.
- Another cruiser noted, “Only protein and rice are included at the hibachi table.”
- A third guest mentioned a similar experience aboard the Wonder, confirming the absence of separately cooked vegetables.
It is important to note that while grilled vegetables are no longer automatically included, diners can still order them as one of their protein choices. Guests may select up to two proteins, with an option to add an additional protein for a fee of $5.
Updated Pricing for Dining at Izumi
The cost to dine at Izumi’s hibachi experience is set at $70 per adult for dinner and $45 per adult for lunch. Early reservations may yield lower prices; for instance, on the upcoming Utopia of the Seas cruise, dinner is priced at $55.99 per adult and lunch at $35.99.
Recent Menu Enhancements
In November 2025, Royal Caribbean introduced minor updates to the Izumi menu. The fixed-price menu increased from $39 to $45, and a new dessert, the Izumi Chocolate Fluffy Cheese Cake, replaced the previous lava cake. Changes were also noted on the hibachi menu, now exclusively featuring beef.
Izumi’s Popularity Among Guests
Izumi has established itself as the most popular specialty restaurant across Royal Caribbean’s fleet. Linken D’Souza, Vice President of Food & Beverage, highlighted its high volume of diners. The restaurant is available on nearly every ship and offers a blend of sushi, cooked dishes, and soups.
- Many ships feature a teppanyaki section where chefs perform cooking demonstrations.
- The “eatertainment” concept enhances the dining experience for guests.
Royal Caribbean has also expanded Izumi’s offerings to include a to-go sushi window and chef-driven dining experiences, further enhancing the unique culinary options available to cruisers.
