Wisconsin Safety Enters NCAA Transfer Portal
Wisconsin Badgers safety Preston Zachman is set to enter the NCAA transfer portal. This decision comes after he concluded his sixth season with the team.
Player Profile
Zachman joined Wisconsin as a three-star recruit in the 2020 class. He was ranked as the No. 1,310 overall player and the No. 90 outside linebacker nationally. After redshirting in 2020, he did not participate in any games during the 2021 season.
2022 Season
In 2022, Zachman emerged as an important player for the Badgers’ defense. He recorded 11 tackles and an interception over six games before a season-ending injury sidelined him.
2023 and 2024 Seasons
Under the new coaching staff led by Luke Fickell, Zachman had his most productive seasons. He played in 25 games, starting 17. His statistics included:
- 107 tackles
- 3.5 tackles for loss
- 4 interceptions
- 7 pass deflections
He showcased his talent early in the 2023 season, notably with two interceptions against Miami (Ohio).
Injury and Next Steps
Unfortunately, a lower-body injury in Week 3 against Alabama ended his 2023 campaign prematurely. Now, Zachman seeks a new opportunity for his seventh collegiate season.
Wisconsin Roster Changes
Zachman is part of a significant group of players leaving Wisconsin. Other notable athletes on the roster who will not return include:

- Cornerback Geimere Latimer
- Linebackers Christian Alliegro and Tackett Curtis

As Wisconsin prepares for the crucial 2026 season, the coaching staff will work to replenish its roster through the transfer portal.
