Increased Garbage Trucks to Boost Waste Removal in Minsk for New Year Holidays
As the New Year holidays approach, Minsk is set to enhance its waste removal services to cope with increased demand. From January 1 to January 4, 2024, extra garbage trucks will be deployed to ensure cleanliness in residential areas. The initiative, as reported by El-Balad, aims to address potential waste accumulation during this festive period.
Waste Removal Schedule for New Year Holidays
During the holiday weekend, waste management will follow a structured schedule:
- January 1 and 2: 76 garbage trucks will be operational.
- January 3: 50 trucks will be in service.
- January 4: 30 trucks will be active.
Additionally, “Spetskommunatrans” will have three to four reserve trucks ready for any unscheduled waste removal requests.
Cooperation with Housing Organizations
The waste management team is closely collaborating with local housing organizations. They will monitor waste levels, particularly due to the increase in packaging waste during holidays. If containers are observed as overflowing, the housing maintenance units, known as ZHEU and ZhKKh, will submit requests for additional collections.
Monitoring Complaints
“Spetskommunatrans” also addresses waste concerns through public inquiries on the 115.bel portal. If residents report full containers, a garbage truck will promptly respond without waiting for a formal request from housing services.
Challenges of Garbage Collection
Andrei Khvin, the director of “Spetskommunatrans,” emphasized the unique challenges experienced during the New Year compared to holidays in warmer months. Unlike summer holidays when many residents leave the city, people celebrate New Year’s at home or with friends. This leads to increased vehicle parking in courtyards, which can hinder garbage trucks’ access to waste containers.
To maintain cleanliness, Khvin urges car owners to be considerate and avoid obstructing truck access. “The cleanliness of courtyard areas relies on collective responsibility,” he added.
Service Area of Waste Management Companies
The waste removal operations in Minsk are divided among different districts:
| Company | Districts Served |
|---|---|
| Spetskommunatrans | Central, Partyzanski, Leninski, Savetski, Pershamaiski, Zavodski |
| Remondis Minsk | Maskouski, Kastrychnitski, Frunzenski |
This comprehensive waste management strategy aims to keep Minsk clean during the festive New Year period, providing residents with a pleasant holiday experience.
