As of January 2, 2026, a significant number of households—approximately 674,000—will qualify for assistance due to the ongoing cold weather conditions. Earlier this week, on December 30, 6,000 households in parts of Cumbria, Northumberland, and the Scottish Borders became eligible after amber cold weather health alerts were raised.
