According to reports, the bar’s management stated that the establishment had undergone inspections three times over the past decade, complying with all regulations. Local police commander Frédéric Gisler emphasized that the identification of the deceased is the top priority for law enforcement.
Status of the Injured
Many injured victims are in critical condition, with approximately 113 individuals formally identified as of the latest update. Among the injured, there are:
- 71 Swiss nationals
- 14 French citizens
- 11 Italians
- 4 Serbs
- Others from various countries
Mathias Reynard, president of the Valais region, reported that around 50 victims may be transferred to specialized burn centers across Europe for advanced treatment.
Among the Victims
One notable case is that of 19-year-old French footballer Tahirys Dos Santos. His club, FC Mertz, confirmed that he sustained severe burns and has been airlifted to Germany for urgent medical care.
The families of those still unaccounted for are anxiously waiting for news. One of the missing is Achille Barosi, a 16-year-old Italian boy who was last seen entering the bar at 1:30 AM on New Year’s Day to retrieve personal items. His aunt, Francesca, expressed her family’s distress over his disappearance.
