Brendan Shanahan, a distinguished figure in hockey, will spearhead a comprehensive review of men’s junior hockey in Ontario. This initiative is backed by Hockey Canada, which announced this decision on a Saturday. Shanahan brings significant experience to the role, having previously served as president of the Toronto Maple Leafs for over a decade before parting ways with the team in May.
Objectives of the Review
The primary goal of Shanahan’s review is to create actionable recommendations for Hockey Canada and its three Ontario affiliates. He will report to a six-person governance committee, ensuring a structured approach to the review process. An interim paper will be produced, outlining a consultation framework with key stakeholders. A final report is expected to be completed by 2026.

The review will focus on the experiences and development pathways for junior hockey players in Ontario. The three provincial members engaged in this effort are:

- Hockey Northwestern Ontario
- Ontario Hockey Federation
