Shropshire Organic Farmers to Expand Award-Winning Holiday Park Near Welsh Border
The owners of Black Hall, an established organic farm and holiday park near Knighton, have proposed a new development. They are seeking permission from Shropshire Council to construct six shepherd’s huts on their property for holiday rentals. This initiative aims to expand their successful venture, which has been operational for approximately 20 years.
Background of Black Hall Holiday Park
Black Hall, situated on the Welsh border, has successfully diversified from traditional farming since the early 2000s. The owners began this transition following the devastating foot-and-mouth disease outbreak in 2001. They sought a means to generate income to support their family of five children.
Current Facilities and Achievements
Over the past two decades, Black Hall has evolved into a popular holiday destination. The site features:
- 15 luxury log cabins and lodges
- A large complex including a swimming pool, sauna, and steam room
The park’s commitment to quality has earned numerous accolades, including:
- Best in Britain 2017 from Hoseasons
- Best Small Lodge Park in Heart of England 2019
Guests may be surprised to learn that the lodges are built on an operating organic farm.
Proposal for Shepherd’s Huts
The proposed shepherd’s huts will occupy a one-acre section of agricultural land, strategically placed between existing lodges. Each hut is designed to include:
- A private bathroom
- A bedroom
- Kitchen facilities
- A parking area
This proposal, submitted by Clun-based Inklines Ltd, is described as a valuable investment and an expansion of the existing holiday park. The local community is invited to provide feedback, as the application is open for public consultation until January 12.
