Patriots’ Stefon Diggs Calls Criminal Charges ‘A Very Emotional Time’
Stefon Diggs, the prominent wide receiver for the New England Patriots, addressed the media on Friday regarding ongoing criminal charges. These charges stem from an incident on December 2 in Dedham, Massachusetts, involving a personal chef he had employed.

Diggs expressed regret to reporters for his recent absence, describing the situation as “a very emotional time.” He stated that because of the ongoing investigation, he could only discuss football-related topics.
“I will continue to be the player I have always been and try to finish the season strong,” he said. “Life is complex, especially when you’re part of a team. We support each other through tough times.”
Details of the Charges
According to court documents, Diggs faces a felony charge for strangulation or suffocation and a misdemeanor for assault and battery. He has denied these allegations through his attorney, who emphasized the unsubstantiated nature of the claims. The Patriots organization has also publicly supported Diggs amid the investigation.
The conflict reportedly arose between Diggs and his personal chef over financial issues. The chef, who had been staying at Diggs’ home for the football season, claimed that a discussion about money led to a physical confrontation. She alleged that Diggs struck her and attempted to choke her.
Despite her claim to have difficulty breathing, the police report indicated that no photographic evidence of injuries was provided at the time of the incident.
Legal Proceedings
Diggs’ arraignment is scheduled for January 23, just two days before the AFC Championship Game. The Patriots, with a current record of 13-3, are set to face the Miami Dolphins in their final regular season game.
Other Legal Issues with Patriots Players
In an unrelated case, Christian Barmore, a defensive tackle for the Patriots, is also facing domestic assault charges. Barmore was charged with assault and battery of a household member following an August incident involving his pregnant girlfriend.
The details of the incident reveal that a domestic dispute arose over the air conditioner settings, leading to physical confrontation. His girlfriend claimed Barmore threw her to the floor during the altercation, resulting in visible bruises.
Barmore has not spoken publicly about the allegations but stated that he is focused on football and the upcoming game against Miami. His arraignment is set for February 3, 2026.
Both players are represented by attorney David Meier, who maintains that the evidence will support their innocence in these matters.
