Yungblud Warns Negativity Discourages Future Rock Artists
Yungblud, the British rock artist known as Dom Harrison, has recently voiced concerns about the impact of negativity on emerging talent within the rock genre. He fears that ongoing criticism could harm the future of rock music.
The Voice of a Generation
At just 28 years old, Yungblud has become a significant figure in rock, particularly after his memorable performance paying tribute to Black Sabbath at the “Back to the Beginning” event last year. However, not everyone in the industry embraces his contribution. Notably, members of the band The Darkness have expressed skepticism about his role in the genre’s evolution.
Criticism and Isolation
In an interview with Loudwire, Yungblud opened up about the backlash he often endures online. He believes this “blind negativity” can discourage younger artists from pursuing their musical dreams. He stated, “It can make you feel really isolated and it can actually deter you as a young musician.”
Yungblud emphasized the importance of resilience. He sees himself as a champion for new creators, explaining that the negative feedback is often misinterpreted. “People don’t realize that this blind negativity deters young musicians from trying at all,” he remarked.
A Love for Rock
Yungblud’s passion for rock music began in his childhood. Growing up in northern England, he spent considerable time in his family’s guitar shop. This early exposure to music profoundly influenced his career. “I got taught guitar by the guys who would work in the shop – I got brought up on the good stuff,” he shared.
A Connection to Icons
This upbringing not only shaped his sound but also his perspective on criticism. He finds kinship with celebrated artists like Billy Corgan of the Smashing Pumpkins. Their collaboration on a reimagined version of Corgan’s Grammy-nominated song “Zombie” solidified their bond as creators who have faced their share of criticism.
Yungblud pointedly remarked, “Isn’t it funny that every great rock star was always hated? It almost encourages you more to use it as fuel and fight back.” His dedication to the genre and its future highlights the ongoing battle against negativity in the music industry.
