Community Honors Derryreel’s ‘Wee’ Barney McFadden at His Funeral
Community members in Derryreel came together to honor the life of ‘Wee’ Barney McFadden, who passed away unexpectedly at 64 years old, just before Christmas. A funeral mass was held on Christmas Eve, December 24, at Holy Cross Church in Dunfanaghy, followed by his burial in the adjoining cemetery.

Barney was well-known in the neighborhood for his unique personality and humor. His childhood friend, Owen Curran, remarked on the profound impact Barney had on those around him. “He was a natural comedian,” Curran noted, emphasizing the stark contrast of emotions at the gathering where many mourned his passing.

Barney was predeceased by his parents, Mary and Neil, and his sister, Madge. He is survived by his brother, Neilly, his brother-in-law, John, as well as his niece Marie and her partner Chris. Barney’s legacy continues through his extended family, including his great-nieces and great-nephews, Caiden, Clodagh, and Ava.
