Off-Duty Deputy Fatally Shot in Austin Bar Parking Lot
A Caldwell County sheriff’s deputy was tragically shot and killed in a nightclub parking lot in Austin on Sunday morning. The incident took place at Club Rodeo, located at 9515 North Lamar Blvd, shortly after 2 a.m.
Details of the Incident
Upon arrival, Austin Police Department officers discovered the deputy wounded in the parking lot. Despite immediate medical attention, he was pronounced dead at the hospital. The identity of the victim has not been publicly disclosed. Authorities believe an unidentified suspect is responsible for the shooting.
Suspect Apprehension
On the same day, at around 3:45 p.m., the U.S. Marshals Lone Star Fugitive Task Force successfully apprehended the suspect. Their operation was supported by Air Support, K9 units, and the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS).

The local community voiced concerns regarding safety in the area. John Dahlberg, who assists with a nearby flea market, noted the police presence at the crime scene when he arrived around 5 a.m. He stated, “The crime scene people were out here looking for evidence and bagging evidence.”
Vendors reported that the vicinity around Club Rodeo has not been perceived as safe. One vendor, Easy, shared his experiences of witnessing fights and hearing gunshots at night. He emphasized that daytime feels safer.
