Motorists in Staffordshire are facing significant disruptions following a series of accidents involving lorries on the A50. Both directions of this main road have been closed due to these incidents, spanning the area between the A522 in Uttoxeter and the A521 at Blythe Bridge Roundabout.

A50 Uttoxeter Closure Details

The closures are part of a broader set of traffic challenges affecting the region. In addition to the A50 incidents, three lanes on the M6 southbound are also closed. This disruption is occurring between junction 18 for Middlewich and junction 17 for Sandbach due to yet another crash.

Train Services Impacted

Further complicating travel plans, London Northwestern trains have suspended services between Crewe and Stafford. The suspension is the result of overhead line issues, which are particularly impacting routes via Stoke-on-Trent.

Snow Conditions Affecting Roads

Weather conditions have deteriorated, with several roads in Staffordshire and Cheshire becoming impassable or hazardous due to snow accumulation. Authorities have identified key affected routes:

  • Staffordshire:
    • A51 London Road northbound: Impassable between New Road (Hixon) and A518 Stafford Road (Weston).
    • A518 Weston Road: Impassable in both directions from Boat Lane (Weston) to Blackheath Lane (Beaconside).
    • A34 Congleton Road: Impassable from Talke Road (Talke Pits) to A5011 Linley Road (Talke).
    • A34 in both directions: Just passable between A513 Beaconside (Marston Gate) and A51 (Aston Island, Stone).
  • Cheshire:
    • A5020 University Way: Just passable from A532 Weston Road (Crewe Hall) to A534 (Crewe Green Roundabout).
    • A530 Middlewich Road: Just passable from Brynlow Drive (Middlewich) to Eardswick Lane (Bradfield Green).

Police Warnings and School Closures

Cheshire Police have advised motorists to travel only when necessary due to ongoing snow and icy conditions. Officers have been actively addressing challenges brought on by the severe weather.

In addition, both high schools in Nantwich, Brine Leas and Malbank, are closed due to the adverse conditions. This adds to the list of educational institutions affected by the recent weather.
