Kostyuk Aims for Top 10 with Enhanced Power and Focus
Marta Kostyuk has entered the new WTA season with enhanced power and focus, aiming for the Top 10 in rankings. After a well-deserved offseason that included time in the Maldives, Medjugorje in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Dubai, she is ready to take on the challenges ahead. The 23-year-old Ukrainian also added a new puppy to her family, which has brought both joy and additional responsibilities. With a busy schedule in 2025 that included 22 tournaments, Kostyuk decided to prioritize mental health and longevity, opting for a longer break.
Intensive Offseason Training
As she prepared for the season, Kostyuk focused on her fitness. Working with fitness coach Jolanta Rusin for the third consecutive preseason, they targeted precision strength rather than merely lifting weights. The training regimen included explosive movements, speed drills, and endurance exercises designed to build both power and reduce injury risk.
- Training focused on eccentric and isometric exercises.
- Emphasis on understanding Kostyuk’s body for tailored workouts.
- Injury prevention techniques incorporated into training.
Kostyuk acknowledged the evolution in her physical capabilities, stating that it has taken time to reach her current strength levels. She expressed excitement about the progress she has made, noting how this offseason has allowed her to become an “incredibly fast human being.” She described the training process as “mesmerizing.”
Returning to Her Favorite Location
Australia holds a special place for Kostyuk. The country has been a site of significant moments in her career, including her girls’ singles title in Melbourne at age 14 and her quarterfinal appearance at the 2024 Australian Open. Additionally, she has developed strong connections with a Ukrainian family in Australia, making the continent feel like a second home.
Before competing in Melbourne, Kostyuk will participate in WTA 500 tournaments in Brisbane and Adelaide, following successful runs to the quarterfinals in both events in 2023 and 2024. In her first match of the season, she will face Yulia Putintseva, marking their inaugural encounter.
Aiming for the Top 10
Despite an impressive season last year, where she reached the quarterfinals of three WTA 1000 tournaments, Kostyuk slipped in the rankings. She began the 2025 season at No. 18 but fell to No. 36 by April, ultimately finishing at No. 26. With renewed determination, she has set a clear objective for this year: to break into the Top 10.
- Kostyuk achieved a career-high ranking of No. 16 in 2024.
- She emphasizes self-development as key to ranking success.
- Focus on setting concrete goals is a new approach for her.
Her ultimate ambition remains to win a Grand Slam. However, she acknowledges that personal growth and being a positive role model are equally important. “At the end of the day, the most important thing is what kind of person you are,” Kostyuk emphasized, highlighting the holistic approach her team adopts.
As she embarks on another season, Kostyuk is equipped with the power, focus, and a renewed sense of purpose, ready to pursue her dreams on the court.
