Omar Al Douri has launched his second Mexican eatery, Corozon Mexicano, at Stony Point Fashion Park, marking a significant addition to the culinary landscape of the South Richmond mall. This establishment opened shortly after Al Douri’s acquisition of Nino’s Italian Delight.

Details of Corozon Mexicano

Corozon Mexicano occupies suite 152, conveniently located near Saks Fifth Avenue. The restaurant specializes in a variety of Mexican dishes, featuring tacos, tripe soup, burritos, empanadas, and tortas. Customers can enjoy tacos priced between $4 and $5, while burritos range from $10 to $12.

The restaurant offers seating for approximately 40 patrons. Al Douri has invested around $100,000 in the restaurant’s build-out and equipment. He aims to provide authentic Mexican cuisine, expressing his belief that “people love Mexican food and we try to focus on the quality.”

Opening and Challenges

Corozon Mexicano opened its doors in November but faced a temporary closure due to plumbing issues, which are currently being resolved. Al Douri anticipates reopening later this month.

Expansion of Al Douri’s Restaurant Portfolio

This new venture follows Al Douri’s May purchase of Nino’s Italian Delight, where he integrated espresso and gelato into the menu. His journey into the food industry began during the COVID-19 pandemic while he was still a bureau chief for a TV station. Al Douri found a passion for baking pita bread, which eventually led him to leave his career in broadcast journalism to pursue his culinary ambitions.

Before moving to Richmond, Al Douri owned a Mediterranean market and bakery near Fredericksburg, which he sold to finance his new restaurant endeavors.

Other Dining Options at Stony Point Fashion Park

Stony Point Fashion Park offers a variety of dining options, including:

  • Latitude Seafood Co.
  • Fleming’s Steakhouse
  • Southern Kitchen (recently relocated from Jackson Ward)

The mall’s anchor establishments include a CineBistro movie theater and Dillard’s. Stony Point Fashion Park is owned by Second Horizon Capital, which acquired the property in 2022.
