YouTube Updates Search Filters, Implements Renaming and Removal Changes
YouTube is introducing significant updates to its video search filters to enhance user experience. These enhancements include renaming existing filters, removing less effective ones, and implementing new options. The changes are designed to align better with user expectations.
YouTube Search Filter Updates
To utilize the updated filters, users can tap “Filters” on the web. On mobile devices, access this feature by tapping the three-dot overflow menu. Here are the key updates:
- New Filters:
- Shorts: A filter dedicated to YouTube Shorts has been introduced.
- Popularity: Formerly known as “View count,” this filter showcases videos based on their viewership and relevance.
- Removed Filters:
- Upload Date – Last Hour: This has been eliminated, replaced by “Today” as the first upload option.
- Sort By Rating: This option is no longer available. You can still find recent results through the “Upload Date” filters.
- Renamed Filters:
- Sort By: Now termed “Prioritize.”
- Duration: The label has changed from “Under 4 minutes” to “Under 3 minutes” and added a range of “3 – 20 minutes.”
Rationale Behind Changes
YouTube explained that the removal of the ‘Upload Date – Last Hour’ and ‘Sort by Rating’ filters stemmed from user complaints. The platform aims to improve overall search functionality and ensure filters are more intuitive. The changes are designed to refine the search experience for users, making it easier to locate relevant content.
As of now, the updated search filter features have not yet been rolled out on youtube.com or the YouTube apps. Users are encouraged to explore these new options once they become available.
