ITN has announced the successful renovation of Studio 1 to host three prominent broadcasts: Good Morning Britain, ITV News, and ITV News London. This transformation aims to provide each show with a distinct editorial style while sharing a common space.
Enhancements in Technology
One of the significant upgrades is the use of LED technology. ITN reports that this advancement results in sharper and brighter lighting compared to previous setups. Since 2004, ITV News has incorporated virtual reality into its studio design. However, with the recent enhancements in LED tech, ITN decided it was crucial for Good Morning Britain to transition to a fully physical set.
Design and Construction Timeline
The project commenced in May 2025 following the announcement of ITV’s production takeover of Good Morning Britain. The new studio needed to be operational by January 5, 2026, marking the first live broadcast produced by ITV News.

Initially, the studio design was planned to incorporate both virtual reality and physical elements. However, ITN opted for a full commitment to the new technology, resulting in a studio featuring six flexible, movable screens.
Challenges of Renovation

This was managed by establishing a smaller virtual reality studio within the main space. De-rigging efforts took place externally, allowing live broadcasts to proceed without hindrances.
Studio Functionality
Studio 1 is pivotal for ITV, hosting seven hours of content daily, alongside significant events like general elections. The studio’s design reflects a modern and recognizable aesthetic, crafted to engage both audiences of ITV News and Good Morning Britain.
Additionally, the background visuals for Studio 1 were captured in 8K resolution, ensuring high-quality display on the LED screens.
